New Orleans had a flavour you could immediately taste. The textures and moments I encountered were layered with wear and tear and a bit of special dust—exactly how the locals preferred it.

During our swamp tour, we boarded a small excursion boat and set off down a river, an experience that felt like being in a zoo—except we were the ones confined, with alligators watching us intently while fellow passengers waved hello.
